Cristiano Ronaldo to start against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup

Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to start against Sevilla when the two sides meet in the UEFA Super Cup in Cardiff, Wales.

According to Spanish sports daily, AS, Cristiano is expected, despite the recommendation of some of the club’s medical staff, to start against Sevilla, his first since being eliminated by Ghana in the 2014 World Cup on 26th June.

Cristiano has not had any game time throughout the pre-season, apart from the 20 minutes played against Manchester United in their friendly in Michigan, but has been training diligently with physiotherapist, Antonio Gaspar in order to be fit for the start of the season.

In addition to Cristiano, Toni Kroos is expected to start in place of the suspended Xabi Alonso, while James Rodriguez is expected to start for Angel Di Maria, who just returned to training last week and is not fit to face the Andalusians.

Keylor Navas is the only new signing that won’t be playing, as the starting goalkeeper spot was promised to Iker Casillas.

However, the night is saved for Gareth Bale, who has been incredible form throughout the pre-season and will be playing in front of his home crowd, almost exactly a year after becoming the most expensive transfer in history.
